There’s one thing at my childhood I will never forget, it was when my cousin came over and brought a PS1 game to play with my older brothers. Obviously my gaming curiosity peaked and had to check it out, I happened to walk in and watch from the very moment Leon’s head arches up and see’s THAT LICKER staring back down at him…my eyes widened and I was introduced to Resident Evil.
From playing it I always couldn’t quite figure something out, I know what zombies were and how they worked and that humans turn into them, but what about Lickers. What was a Licker pre T-virus?
I just had to find out…and the results were…interesting…
I just want to start this blog by saying that I am not a massive player of fighting games. The only ones I have ever owned include:
- Street Fighter 2 (Mega Drive & Wii)
- Street Fighter 4 (PS3)
- Soul Caliber 2 (Gamecube)
Now everyone knows that Street Fighter 2 is and always will be the best fighting game ever made and I am not disputing that at all. However one fighting game I think that was in the shadow of the more popular franchises like Street Fighter and Tekken was Soul Caliber 2 and this game was probably the fighting game I have spent the most time on in my entire life. Released on the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox I didn’t realise what a good game it was until I was about 1 week into playing it. And truth be told the only reason I bought it was due to my passion for Legend of Zelda and Link who was the bonus character for the Gamecube version.
From growing up with games like Metal Gear Solid, The Legend of Zelda to more recent titles such as The Last of Us and Assassins Creed, I have experienced some of the most insightful and complex storylines ever thought up. From convoluted editing of real history to off the wall fantasy worlds, I have on more than one occasion been lost in games and locations like Hyrule and post apocalyptic America. So it saddens me to say that the more and more new games that come out, seem to have lost a serious focus on the story line of a game. For me its the whole reason you play a game (or at least an RPG), to step into the shoes of a hero and have that one main mission to complete. With the introduction of so many open world games, this has also hindered the focus on storylines, with the attention shifting to shoving as many side quests into a game as possible, much to most OCD players annoyance (such as myself).
However I am happy to say that Bethesda did not drop the storyline ball with Fallout 4, as I once again got lost in my characters emotions and could not wait for the moment I found my son again…
Hello again! As you may or may not have noticed I haven’t reviewed or blogged in awhile, however this has been mostly due to the fact that I have been tied up playing a game (the irony I know) that is so addictive, never ending, fantastic and potentially relationship ending. Of course I am talking about Fallout 4.
If you like getting creeped out and having your own fears brought to life in different ways, then look no further than Until Dawn. Having just completed it, I can safely say that I hate jump scares and this game has plenty of them. Right from the start when you are introduced to the 8 people whose lives you will determine with your choices, the game builds tension up before scaring you senseless, whether its just birds flapping their wings or lunatic in the shadows.
At last! Our prayers have been answered, Capcom have confirmed that there will be a Resident Evil 2 remake. This is the best news to come from the gaming world in a long time. Whether it is just a HD remake or they tweak the Police station layout or other things, it is going to be good. As long as they take feedback from the fans which they should, it will be something special and I will be first in line to buy it. For this in particular I want to thank the guys on the ‘Remake Resident Evil 2’ Facebook community page, who played a massive part in petitioning for a remake as well as just talking about how amazing it would be to remake Resident Evil 2.
If you don’t like the page already here is the link, they rule! – Remake Resident Evil 2
Not too long ago I got a hold of my old Pokemon gameboy from my brother, which brought back some great memories. Hours and hours I spent on my little Game Boy original, pocket and colour, battling pokemon and surfing on a Rhydon. But i remembered something startling…I NEVER CAUGHT THEM ALL 😦
